Testing New Look Makeup.

Back again with another beauty post!

You may heave read my previous post where I tested Primark makeup. I was pleasantly surprised with a few of their products (if you missed it, click here!) and they have since become firm favourites -Lip crayons, I'm looking at you.

I was intrigued to see how other stores approached their makeup ranges and whether they are any good.

Over the last few weeks, I have put New Look's beauty range to the test.
I have to say I had high hopes for this range as NL is one of my favourite stores.
The first thing I noticed is that their range is extensive. They went all out on their beauty products and I for one was impressed.

I bought a selection of goodies online.

Before we start I want to praise their customer service team on Twitter. I had a problem with the condition of the lipstick packaging (meh, it happens) but their customer service was second to none. They had it sorted by the end of the day. All very apologetic, friendly and incredibly efficient.

So from the range I purchased:

Flawless Liquid Foundation £4.99
Eyeshadow 4 Shade Palette £4.99
Dramatic Jumbo Eyeliner Pen £4.99
Shape & Fix Eyebrow Gel £3.99
Medium Brown Eyebrow Pencil £2.49
Prime & Fix Lipstick Base £3.99
Matte Lipstick £3.99*
Lip Tint Moisturising Balm £3.99

All of the products were and still are on a 3 for 2 deal!

Lets start with the foundation in the shade Porcelain.
"Get a flawless, natural looking finish with medium coverage and SPF protection".

  • It has a subtle pleasant smell
  • For the price you pay, this is a pretty good foundation
  • It settles on the skin very well and doesn't become tacky
  • It doesn't transfer onto hands/clothes etc
  • Shade was a decent match for my skin
  • SPF 15. Sun protection is a must for me. Save your skin people!
  • There are only 3 shades to choose from
  • It needs to be blended quite a bit to appear smooth on the skin
  • The coverage is more light than medium- it didn't cover redness/spots/blemishes
  • Not as long lasting as I'd like

Next is the Eyeshadow 4 shade palette. There are 3 of these to choose from but the one I went for is the Natural Nudes one.

  • Lovely decent size shadows
  • Shades go well together
  • The shadows are very smooth and silky in texture
  • Easy to blend
  • Soft, subtle shades
  • The gold shade. Worth buying for this alone! So bold, shimmery and gorgeous.
  • Great value. I'd pay £4.99 for the gold shade alone.

  • 3/4 of the shades are very soft and subtle. (You'll notice this is both and pro and a con)
  • Lighter shades require the brush to be swirled quite a bit. Colour pay off is poor. Swatches of the lighter shades proved tricky because of this.

On to the eyeliner. I do love a good eyeliner.

  • Creates strong striking looks
  • Lasts a long time and doesn't fade
  • It's waterproof!
  • Very easy to remove
  • The felt pen is soft and creates nice lines in one sweep

  • It's very bulky. Quite tricky to hold with my little hands
  • Thick tip means mistakes are BIG mistakes. There's no room for error

Brow gel next.

  • Small brush allows you to be precise
  • Does what is says on the tube
  • Long lasting

  • Your eyebrows feel heavy. It weighs the hairs down a bit which I don't like the feeling of
  • Texture is weird. Almost chalky

With the eyebrow pencil I accidentally ordered the wrong shade...The dark shade is what I need to match my brows so I can't comment on the colour. Though this one didn't do a bad job.

  • The brush is great and so handy. It works really well
  • Great consistency
  • Creamy texture is great for smooth application
  • It's waterproof
  • Colour is bold, long lasting and very natural looking
I have no cons for this product. It's great.

Lipstick base is up next. I can't say I've ever used one. I usually just apply a thin layer of lip balm but I wanted to give this a go.

  • Vanilla scented
  • Smooths the lips instantly
  • Refines the look and feel of your lips
  • Makes my lip products last a lot longer than usual

  • A good lip balm does the same thing (minus increasing the longevity of your lip product)

Lipstick time!
I'm not a big lipstick wearer but I loved the colour of this one. The one I have is Violet.
*I bought it in the sale for £2 and the shade is no longer available (booo) but they still have some other lovely shade in the same style packaging.

  • Unique colour. Surprisingly, I don't own a shade like this
  • Lovely pink shade with hints of purple/berry
  • The little swatch on the box is actually accurate and true to the shade
  • Perfect shade for Spring/Summer
  • Bold colour
  • Rose gold packaging that I adore
  • Goes on so smoothly
  • Long lasting
  • Doesn't smudge or bleed. Even without a lip liner

No cons. I love this lipstick.

And finally the lip tint in shade Berry. I love a lip tint as I'm not a big fan of lipsticks. The tint is a great alternative that works for me.

  • SPF protection. Hooray!
  • Lovely colour
  • Not too glossy
  • Not sticky at all
  • Feels very nourishing and leaves the lips soft
  • Smells lovely

  • Need to be reapplied several times throughout the day

Overall I think New Look's makeup range is very well designed and easy to use. All the products I tried were affordable and great value for money. With their beauty range always on a deal, you're guaranteed a bargain.
Each product is high quality and does exactly what's expected.

Very impressed.

If there are any other makeup brands you'd like me to try then please let me know.
