New To My Makeup Collection.

I'm always adding to my makeup collection and so I thought I'd share with you the bits I've purchased over the last month and give you my opinion on them.

Lets start with brushes.

I've recently been having trouble getting a flawless blend with my beauty blender so I decided to switch back to a blending/buffing brush which is working so much better for me. I just find a brush so much easier to use and I can apply my base makeup so much faster.
I went ahead and bought one from eBay and it broke 2 days later. Needless to say I wasn't impressed so I decided to spend a bit more and hopefully buy a more reliable brush. I opted for the B. Blending Brush which was £9.99 from Superdrug. I chose this one because I know and trust that anything you buy from Superdrug's own range is cruelty free.
I'm absolutely loving the finish it's giving me. The brush itself is so soft and fluffy and I've had no hairs come off of it when using it too which was something that used to happen frequently with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush. I'm so pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend it.

On the subject of Real Techniques, I bought the set of 4 brushes as they were on sale for £4.99 in Superdrug. If I'm being honest I'm glad they were on sale because otherwise I'd be really disappointed in my purchase. The only brush I really like is the fan brush. That works great to disperse colour and buff out my lip colour. Aside from that, I'm not a fan.
I feel like there's nothing that sets them apart from any other lip brushes so like I said before, I'm glad I only paid a fiver for the set.

The yellow and orange brushes were also bought in Superdrug from their own range. I can't say for sure but I think they were £2 for the orange eyeshadow brush and £3 for the yellow one.
I've found the orange brush really useful for pressing on eyeshadow. It's a firm brush that works for packing on colour but also soft enough to allow you to blend out the area. It's a good little brush.
I've been using the yellow brush to apply my bronzer. The brush is ridiculously soft. I just love swirling it on the back of my hand because it's so freaking fluffy. Aside from its softness it also disperses the product you use really nice and evenly. It picks up a decent amount of product with just a little swirl and I really like it. Plus, the colour is just fab. It really does brighten up my makeup bag.

The next product is the 3 in 1 Bronzing Powder from St Tropez. I picked this up in TK Maxx for £4.99. Considering its RRP is £15 I had to grab it while it was there.

This bronzer could honestly be one of my favourite makeup products I've ever purchased.

I don't use the sculpt, bronze and highlight separately or at least I haven't yet. Instead I swirl my yellow brush around the pan and apply it all over my face, neck and a little on the collar bones to give a fabulously bronze glow. It isn't cakey or heavy and it just sits well on whatever you put it on. The colour is so well suited to my skin tone and looks like a natural tan.
It really does look like I've picked up some colour and it's so lovely. I don't have to worry about looking orange either because it doesn't matter how much I apply, it all blends perfectly and just keeps on glowing.

Another great thing about it is it's a sizeable product. You get A LOT for your money. I love it so much that I'm going back to TK Maxx to see if they have any more so I can stock up. Even if they don't I'd happily pay the full price for it.

I needed a new primer and initially I wanted to get the MUA one as I'd heard and read so many good things about it however when I went in store to pick it up I saw that it contains tea tree and unfortunately I'm allergic so I needed to find an alternative. I went over to the Revolution section (somewhere I frequently find myself) and grabbed a primer. It was the Ultra Face Base Primer and it was a fiver.

I'll be honest with you, it's just a basic primer. Nothing to write home about. I didn't notice anything special and I don't really think it justifies its £5 price tag. There's barely any in there and you need quite a bit of it to cover your whole face. I wont be buying it again.

It's the same with the Browcote Waterproof Brow Gel. I got this in my Pink Parcel a while ago but have only just opened it. It's...just a basic brow gel. I don't know how one could be superior to another. It does the job and I can't complain.

Have you seen Ferne McCann's beauty range? It's sold in Poundland and it's bloody great.
I'm awful at applying false eyelashes but I thought for £1 I'd give 'em a go.
I'm so glad I did because these are great. They come with a good glue that holds firm.
They were way too long for me but most eyelashes usually are so after trimming them down I attempted to put them on and succeeded. They're really comfortable to wear. For me personally, these ones are a little too much. Great for a party or occasion but not for day to day wear.
I'd highly recommend taking a look at her range and giving them a go.

I've been looking for some kind of Stila dupe. Stila have the most beautiful liquid eyeshadows but at £23 each I just can't justify that kind of price tag. Then I saw on Twitter someone recommending the Metal Shock eyeshadows from essence and thought, why not give them a go?
I chose the colour Total Eclipse. Tell a lie, I settled on that colour because I wanted the gold shade after swatching a tester but when I went to grab one there weren't any left... It was £3.50 so a much better price tag.

Now it is very pretty and the shimmer is real but I don't find myself drawn to it. It just kinda sits in my makeup bag untouched. A lot of the products I use are ones I instinctively reach/look for and that's how I know I really like them. I don't know if it's just because I don't really know how to get the most of what but it's not as used as I thought it would be.
It's described on the back as creamy and I don't think it's that at all.

I just swatched it again on my hand and it is beautiful and completely dries which is good. It has a lovely silver twinkle with a purple base. It's a nice formula and doesn't transfer once it's dry.
I'm not sure if I've got a dud or it's the applicator but it kinda clumps when you initially put it on your eyes. The product gathers on the wand and blobs off which is fine because it blends out well but it's just a but off putting (Am I just being a bit snobby or...?). I'd just prefer a smoother formula. Having said that it has no texture when blended out.

I wish there were more shades in the range too like a copper and a rose gold maybe. I'd probably reach for them much more than this one.

Finally, another product I picked up from TK Maxx was the Pixi + ItsJudyTime Lip Colour Palette.
I didn't buy this because of the collaboration and I actually don't know who Judy is but I loved the colours and have wanted to try Pixi for a while now. I paid £14.99 for this palette.

I really like the colour selection. There are great nude shades that look similar in the pan but are all unique. Then there are a mix of brown, pink, red and berry shades which are all lovely. Realistically I don't know how much I'll wear the brown shade but I'm all over the nudes and the pink shade B Did It. I love the control you have over the colour of your lips. As they're all so blendable you can create a custom colour every time. There are so many different shades that can be achieved with this palette and they're all shades I'm happy to wear.

You have the freedom to adjust the colour to whatever you want. You can choose to have an intense, solid colour, an ombre look or a just a subtle tint.

Swatches from top to bottom:

Julianna Bear
B Did It
Sweet Cherry.

I very rarely wear red but I have found myself drawn those shades. I like to blend it in with B Did It to soften it a little. I'm really enjoying this palette.

So that's your lot!

Have you made any beauty purchases you love this month?

  3. You got so many amazing offers! I have a few brushes from B and while they're okay, I definitely have others I prefer more. I find I prefer a brush over a beauty blender with a lot of my foundations too x
